New Home Technology: Vents or Zone Heating?

There are few things I dislike more than a high heating or cooling bills that can easily exceed $300 a month. So, I regularly grab my 6’ ladder from the garage and adjust each of the 8 vents in our house to shut down or open up hot or cool air flow.  We have a big house, and it just doesn’t make sense for me to heat and/or cool the entire house. With new home construction, we now have two options that can help you avoid higher electric bills without ever grabbing the ladder - Smart Vents and Zone Heating.  A Smart Vent is an automated register that will automatically open or close the register to allow or block airflow from the homes HVAC system – how cool?  Not only can these new devices make the home more comfortable but they also save energy and money.  Zone Heating works similarly but requires larger adjustments to a homes HVAC system.  The zone heating system uses dampers to direct the flow of air around the home. This achieves the same increased level of comfort and energy savings.  The Zone Heating is more complex and more expensive, so you need to do some research.  You can start by reading MORE HERE.
